had an awesome afternoon even though i didn't know that many people....

its a pity nathan is heading overseas i'm sure having him up here in QLD would've made things heaps easier for sophie...

oh well...i fly back to melb tommorrow night...arrive just before midnight...

am feeling quite homesick actually, will be glad to be back in familiar surrounds.....i am looking forward to wed night at the rob roy followed by the empress.....it'll be fun to be surrounded by old friends again...

Day 5 in QLD Sep. 5th, 2004 @ 01:12 pm
The launch went well. Clocked up 100 payers or so which was nice.

Wes Davidson put in an awesome set as usual, and was joined by various members of his usual band and the boaties(who i'm just about to go see later this arvo)

Earlier chuck (and his friend) and I went to a vietnamese restaurant around the corner from the troubadour. Where we knocked over a bottle of red, and tried not to talk business....

later, during the show, i had drunken conversations with sam, his girlfriend, chuck, james o'brien(the O from DOPH), the mixer, the venue manager, etc. etc.
Current Mood: groggy
Current Music: crappy elevator music in the internet cafe

logging in from trina's laptop(mac) at wes's place in newmarket.

quite a big storm is brewing...so much for sunny queensland!!!

have a cat called "pacey" sitting on my lap.

and wes is in the other room rehearsing "attention shoppers"

we went into the valley for the market i ran into alistair barden(ex-frente, ruck rover, now plays with a whole bunch of bands, he's in town with deb conway)

i am really hanging out for chuck's gig at the troubadour tonight.

» Day 3/4 in QLD
Chris Pickering(ex-boat people)'s new band was ace. heaps of fun, very country influenced, but very "smooth"(for want of a better word)

i met up with neal at the troubador, and finally met the P from DOPH.

the support were jeremiah, who were kinda cool in a mick thomas/WPA way.

yesterday was spent wandering around the "valley". Dropped into 4ZZZ, in an attempt to organise a last minute interview for chuck.

i am slowly getting through "48 shades of brown" by nick earles. He's pretty good. That said, he's also a pretty nice guy in person too.....
» Day 2 in QLD
last night a started nodding off in front of the telly at about 9.30(i was still going on 90 mins sleep). so i had a shower and went to sleep in the spare room......

woke up bright and early so wes could drop me at the train station, so i could catch the train to the gold coast to meet up with jadey.

the train took about an hour and i stupidly bought a magazine so i didn't get bored(i've already bought one book on this trip, and i should be taking in the scenery anway!!!)

jadey picked me up the station and then took me on le grande tour of the gold coast, including the ken done shop in miami beach.

we then headed out to her uni, and i got to see her recording studios and office. Jadey is probably the coolest honours student i've ever met....she's doing a thesis on powerpop, using jellyfish and fountains of wayne

chuck played in the uni bar for two hours, while we caught up, and kept forgetting to clap at the end of songs(well no-one else did if we didn't)

it was a decent drive back to brissie, chuck nodded off a couple of times......

tonight i'm going to see the horse you rode in on at the trobadour(my new fave venue)
» DAY 1 in QLD
got a grand total of 90 mins sleep last night.
did NHNL and bittersuite email out minutes before calling cab to get to airport.
Managed to arrive a full hour before the flight, which was nice for a first timer.

Bought a nick earls book from the airport book shop, and then went through security...no beeps, which is a first.

The plane trip was uneventful but tedious, the guy behind me insisted on pulling his tray up and down the entire flight. Not to mention the stupid racist bogans with him.....

plane landed in brissie, as it started to rain....(yes rain!!!)

caught the airtrain to newmarket,SMSd everyone to let melb people know i'd landed and brissie people know i had a day free to catch up, dropped off my bag, wrote on some chuck posters then headed into the valley

stupid bus driver didn't even give me a chance to explain that i _did_ want to go to brunswick st and _not_ the city before he sped off....so i caught the train....buses suck anyway!!!

I hung out in the mall for most of the rest of the day, finding the venues, street press, having a proper lunch etc.

Met up with nathan at 3. He took me on a grand, behind the scenes tour of brisbane's live music venues(very exclusive i tells ya!)

then we ended up at the troubador, where we watched hirst and greene soundcheck...i met 4 weeks old millie...and, yes...

I MET ROB HIRST!!!!! (Thats one down, 4 to go.)
My trip to brisbane is worthwhile and its only day one!!!!

tommorrow i head down to the gold coast to catch up with jadey and meet up with chuck and sam. chuck is playing at griffith uni.
